Ok, we are now reading aloud this "Swallows and Amazons" book in the evening! See my review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/65162316 for "Coot Club" to get the setting for this book. We are once again in the Norfolk Broads (rivers), but this time detective work is the order of the day to prove that the "Death and Glories" are NOT the ones casting off boats in the middle of the night. *********************************************This book went in a bit long for us. There were just two or three (or four or five!) too many times when the "Death and Glories" are accused of casing off boats. Enough already. We understand that they are wrongfully accused, and that the community turns against them because of all the circumstantial evidence that seems to be against them. The plots outside of the young "Death and Glories" actually provide the most interesting parts of the book. Catching the champion weight pike, going eel-ing in the middle of the night, etc. We read those aloud with enjoyment, then gritted our teeth through the chapters where they are snubbed and misunderstood because of the crimes laid at their door. So, read the book, but don't expect a whiz-bang trip the entire time as we got when we read "Swallows and Amazons".
